About

Hidamari Prism 日溜まり【ひだまり】(n) sunny spot; exposure to the sun Play videos, animated webpages, or static images as your desktop wallpaper, with a focus on low power usage and broad hardware and desktop-environment compatibility. This project is a fork of Hidamari by Jeff Shee, and is developed with the help of AI. The original project lives at github.com/jeffshee/hidamari. Both the original code and this fork are licensed under GPL-3.0-or-later. Compatibility: X11 is fully supported on every desktop — video, stream, and web-page wallpapers, plus pause/mute when maximized. GNOME on Wayland is fully supported via a tiny opt-in GNOME Shell extension. On KDE Plasma, Sway, and other Wayland compositors the wallpaper plays in a plain window and the window-state toggles are disabled, so an X11 session gives the full experience. Static-image wallpapers are GNOME-only. New in the Hidamari Prism fork: - Static image wallpapers (GNOME) — zero rendering or decoding overhead - Searchable wallpapers & playlists - Wallpaper playlists, including adding an entire folder at once - Ordered (sequential) playlist playback when shuffle is turned off - Pause and mute the wallpaper automatically when a window is maximized - GNOME Wayland support via a tiny bundled GNOME Shell extension - Power-efficient defaults: hardware decoding with automatic CPU fallback - Multi-monitor support with per-monitor decoders and hot-plug handling Similar functionality to Xwinwrap + mpv or Komorebi, with more features.
